The fabulous saint that the Christian legend presents us as an endearing giant who helped the Baby Jesus to cross a river without knowing who the infant was, appears here characterised as a bearded young man, wearing a tunic and cloak. Sitting on his shoulder, Jesus raises one arm and makes the gesture of blessing. Saint Christopher was a popular saint during the 17th and 18th centuries.
