A RARE AND FINELY CARVED RED LACQUER 'HUNDRED BOYS’ CIRCULAR BOX AND COVERQIANLONG PERIOD (1736-1795)The top and sides of the cover are deeply carved with a scene of young boys at play within an elaborate garden landscape with pavilions, trees and ornamental rocks, the boys engaging in various pursuits including riding hobby horses and playing musical instruments, with one in the center wearing a demon mask, all on a diaper ground. The sides of the box are similarly decorated, with the interior and base lacquered black.5 7/8 in. (14.8 cm.) diam.
