有清一代，好古、鉴古、证古及金石考据之风盛行，文人学士们以研究古文字、古器物为风尚，秦砖汉瓦在出土不久后即被收藏，并常常被改制成砖砚，以致古为今用，并被配制砚盒，加以题咏，聊以遣兴。
这件清代的砖砚正面淌池深凹，砚额“四维”篆书铭文，砚身两侧均有铭文，其一“景定七年”，其一为“难得糊涂”篆书四字。整器厚重古雅，质朴美观，格外动人。
