|雕漆技法至少在唐代已有：“剔红，即雕红漆也。髹层之厚薄，朱色之明暗，雕镂之精粗，亦甚有巧拙。唐制多印板刻平锦朱色，雕法古拙可赏，复有陷地黄锦者。”到明代，其发展成熟，特别是永乐、宣德，至嘉靖、万历年间，已经到达一个巅峰。|此件清早期的雕漆人物圆盒，直追明代永宣时期。其堆漆厚润，刀工圆漆，圆形盖盒，作子母口，闭合紧密；所作之刻画，人物姿态舒展自然，景致如画，人物与景皆生动毕现。其人物高雅，在蕉叶作书。书蕉，为雅人之所好，有“怀素书蕉”之事，亦有乾隆皇帝以蕉叶为书之事。|此盒形致纤秀，雕刻精细，制作周正典雅，是一件雕漆的典范之作。
