Notes: George Howard was an English aristocrat, peer, politician and painter, the last Earl of Carlisle to own Castle Howard. Belonging to the Etruscan School of painters, he was a friend and patron to a number of Pre-Raphaelite artists, particularly Edward Burne-Jones.
