秦汉以前龟一直被视为“灵物”或“吉祥之物”，据史料记载，龟兆吉祥长寿，所以汉代象征皇权的九鼎饰有龟纹，汉天子的高庙中凿有龟室，年俸二千石以上的高官宰相、大将军所用印章也是不同材质的龟形印钮。唐代以后，除了龟钮印玺，单独成器的极少。此玉龟背为白玉材质，玉质细腻，光滑莹洁，少许沁色优美，年代感极强。此器造型别致，呈椭圆形，作龟背状，极为形象。其雕刻技法精湛，龟背表面有阴刻龟壳纹，生动逼真。龟腹近长方形，表面阴线刻画“大”字作腹甲，属于战汉风格，非常具有收藏价值。
