甪端，寓意祥瑞与皇权，狮身、独角、熊爪，传说日行万八千里、晓四夷之语、预知未来、护美善而驱邪妖，原称角端，后因“甪”字与其独角之貌更为相称，改称甪端。此兽常伴明君左右，仅见于明君统领之地。《宋书·符瑞志下》记载：“甪端日行万八千里，又晓四夷之语，圣主在位，明达方外幽远，则奉书而至。” 本甪端熏炉精铜所制，铸工精巧。甪端造型庄重威猛，双目圆瞪，獠牙毕露，体格魁伟，所呈气势威严肃穆。其独角上翘，发须精雕细刻，绕于头顶及颈部两侧。头部为盖，或与颈部相连开合，腹部中空。焚香时，香自兽口出，灵兽如生，吐纳烟雾。此吉瑞灵兽作此类熏炉最为合宜。此类炉深受帝王青睐，因其敞开兽口，烟雾涌溢，象征君主广纳谏言，而多置于君王宝座两侧，寓意江山稳固，并显皇权至高无上。 来源：瀚海库出2005年秋lot3119
