此件瓷板绘画精湛，以粉彩绘画五位高士相聚在古松下，展画畅谈，旁有几案，画面人物灵动，配有原装红木框，做工极为精良，原框原画，殊为难得。
五老观图取自宋代的典故，《渑水燕谈录》卷四载：庆历（北宋仁宗赵桢）末年。杜祁公告老退居南京，与太子宾客致仕王涣、光禄卿致仕毕世长、兵部郎中分司朱贯、尚书郎致仕冯平，为五老会。吟咏欢宴，士大夫高之。五人年皆八十余，康宁爽健，相得甚欢。后世以为祥瑞。
