秦岭云，生于河南汲县（今卫辉市）；曾用名维新等；画室堂号五瓜草堂、闻鸡楼；字岭云；秦岭云在画行作坊度过童年，从小对传统造型艺术有浓厚兴趣；1934年入北平国立艺术专科学校绘画系学习；抗日战争爆发后，在湖南沅陵国立艺专学习；1938年3月起，历任中央陆军军校职员、中学教师、教育部青木关民教馆艺术主任、金陵女子文理学院附中及国立第十中学教师；新中国成立后，先后在中央美术学院、人民美术出版社从事国画创作研究，2008年在北京去世。
