金刚杵是藏传佛教重要的法器，象征摧灭烦恼之菩提心，表示如来金刚之智慧大用，能破除愚痴妄想的内魔与外道诸魔障，为诸尊之持物或修法之道具，是密宗修法的重要器具。
此件为九股金刚杵，制作规整，以黄铜铸造并鎏金，鎏金纯厚。造型洗练，线条流畅，杵正中间为圆球，浑圆璀璨，上下饰仰覆莲瓣纹，莲瓣修长典雅工致。莲台托举外围八股，粗壮有力的一股贯穿正中，整体收而忽放，略带肩峰，工艺细腻。现遗存古杵以五股的为多见，如拍品作九股者较为珍罕。
