Utagawa Hiroshige II 歌川広重2代目 (JAPAN, 1826-1869) Lot of two (2) prints - ‘Nakazu Mitsumata’ (中洲三ッ俣) Oban tate-e woodblock print From the series ‘Thirty-six Views of the Eastern Capital’ (Tôto sanjûrokkei 東都三十六景) Dimensions (the leaf): 35 x 23,5 cm - #25, Kameido Tenjin Shrine (亀戸天神) Chuban tate-e woodblock print From the series ‘Forty-Eight Famous Views of Edo’ (Edo meisho yonjûhakkei 江戸名所四十八景) Dimensions (the leaf): 22 x 16 cm Provenance: A large collection of 100+ Japanese woodblock prints, properties from a French collector. Notes: Hiroshige II was a Japanese designer of ukiyo-e art, who inherited the name Hiroshige II following the death in 1858 of his master Hiroshige, whose daughter he married. His work so resembles that of his master that scholars have often confused them. 2. In relation to Condition Reports, whilst we make certain observations on the lot, which are intended to be as helpful as possible, references in the condition report to damage or restoration are for guidance. The absence of such a reference does not imply that an item is free from defects or restoration, nor does a reference to particular defects imply the absence of any others. The condition report is an expression of opinion only and must not be treated as a statement of fact. Measurements and weight are approximate and the potential bidder may re-ask it to be checked when asking for a condition report.
