A RARE INCISED BROWN LACQUER BOX AND COVERWestern Han DynastyThe circular cover delicately incised to the top with mythical creatures and animals in flight among aposite and stylised dragon cloud scrolls, bracketed in steeping bandsposed of geometrical elements and spirals, the vertical sides with mythical wing men sitting on animals arranged with stylised spirals and framing balls, the box further decorated with triangles and zigzag lines, all reserved on a brown lacquer ground, the interior and the base lacquered in red, box.9cm (3 1/2in) high. See a similar incised brown lacquer box and cover depicting hunting scenes, illustrated inZhongguo qiqi quanji 3: Han, 1997, pl.76, p.48.盒呈圓形,平頂,三環弧壁,直口。盒蓋開光及四周以雲虡紋裝飾,錐畫各種仙人靈獸穿梭雲氣之間。弧壁上亦雕有三環連續幾何紋。漢代流行雲虡紋,卻僅限於貴族使用。可參考一例西漢文帝時期錐畫狩獵紋漆奩,見《中國漆器全集3—漢》,福建,1997年,頁48,圖七六。
