EDO PERIOD, 18TH CENTURYComprising of three dishes and a large bowl, all typically decorated in underglaze blue, gilt, red, green and yellow enamels, variously painted with figures, flowers and brocade patterns, the largest plate with sixteen sides and with Chinese figures to the well, the characters fu, ki, cho, shun (riches, prosperity and eternal spring) inscribed underneath, 32.2cm max. (5)Provenance: from an English private collection, London.Cf. O Impey, Japanese Export Porcelain, p.243 no.430 for another sixteen-sided dish at the Ashmolean Museum closely related to the one in this lot.
