早期白瓷烧造始于3世纪（东汉末年），北朝、隋、唐、五代时期制作技艺逐步提升，其中最具代表性的是河北内邱及临城为中心的邢窑产区，其所烧白瓷被唐人誉为“类银”“类雪”的名品。此器造型规整，具有一种浑厚稳重的气质，通体施白釉，釉层细白、洁净、均匀，器身不施加任何花纹装饰，简单大气，极富古风，是为北方白瓷中的佳品。
