宋代茶事鼎盛，斗茶盛行，由裁判根据盏内茶液泡沫的质量及持久度评选。黑褐盏较能衬托白色茶沫观察茶色，因此最受欢迎。其声名远播海外，在日本被称为“天目釉”此器撇口，斜壁，圈足小而浅。内外施黑釉，釉质刚润，釉色乌黑，釉面浮悬小油滴纹，口沿因烧造时釉水流动，显露胎色。厚釉凝聚至近足处，凝而不淌，足底无釉而露胎，修胎率直有力，刀法自然，胎质棕色，气势深邃，厚重有力。
