DESCRIPTION - ‘LOVE PLANE’ was spray painted in 2011 by Banksy onto the side of Norwich House, which backs onto Rumford St car park, opposite the Liverpool War Museum. The piece originally formed part of a 15-feet tall art work and depicts an intricately stencilled black-and-white biplane with a heart-shaped smoke trail and it soon became one of Banksy’s best known Liverpool works. Another rendering of the stencil, featuring the same plane with a red plume of smoke behind it, appeared in Wapping, London a short while before the Liverpool example, but was painted out almost immediately by the owners of the building on which it had appeared. (See Hessink’s Catalogue Raisonné of Banksy’s Street Art Work) Notes NOTE In 2016, the Liverpool ‘LOVE PLANE’ was removed from its location by the building's freeholders who wished to preserve it prior to commencing extensive building works and the piece was sent off for restoration, in preparation for its proposed display - along with a number of other as the Street Banksy pieces from the area - at a new street art museum in Berry House, Baltic Triangle, but the proposed display was never realised Art Museum was never set up. The artwork moved to a private collection and will be offered for the first time since its relocation in 2016.
