He spent most of his life in France, but regularly returned to the Netherlands for inspiration. Especially his ‘Clair de lunes’ paintings (moonlit landscapes) became very popular. His contemporaries admired his work; Édouard Manet (1832-1883) even described him as "The father of modern landscape painters".Today, Jongkind’s works are included in the collections of the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the National Gallery in London and the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, among others.Please note: condition reports and additional photos are available upon request.
