signed PUQUAN, inscribed, and with one seal of the artist ink and color on paper, hanging scroll Pu Quan(1913-1991),cousin of the last emperor (Aisin-Gioro Puyi, 1906-67).Born just after the fall of the Qing dynasty,he grew up in Beijing and received a classical education in calligraphy,painting and literature.In the Republican period (1912-49) Pu joined the culturally influential Chinese Painting Research Society and taught painting privately as well as at the Furen Catholic University.
