A CHINESE GOLD LACQUERED WOOD FIGURE OF A DIGNITARY 17TH CENTURY Wearing flowing dragon robes, seated upon a horseshoe back chair supported by a pedestal, paper label for Bluett & Sons, London, together with a brhpot decorated with relief-moulded panels containing silkworms and other insects amongst mulberry leaves, and a water dropper modelled as a furled lot leaf attached to a lot pod, 26cm max. (3) Provenance: from the collection of Mr Charles Sydney Cheston, painter, d.1960, and thence by descent. The gold lacquer figure recorded in Charles Cheston's 1946 catalogue as purchased from Bluett & Sons for 6, and the water dropper for 8, with the note: 'slight damaged [sic.] (tip of petal) when returned from Christie's 1937'.
