Carlo Bugatti (1856-1940) Chair in walnut, ebonised wood, copper, vellum, pewter, bone and cords. Italy, C. 1900 size 92 x 40 x 33 cm Patriarch of the famous Bugatti family, Carlo was a celebrated and innovative Art Nouveau designer of the early 20th century. His son, Ettore Bugatti, was the founder of the Italian automobile company. The allusions to different cultures and epochs have made Bugatti's pieces a reference in 20th century furniture. He furnished the Turkish lounge of the Waldor Astoria Hotel in New York, worked with the Au Bon Marché and Maison Dufayel department stores in Paris.
