本拍品尺幅巨大，或为夏伊乔为大会堂作布置画底稿。刘海粟曾几度描绘太湖工人疗养院之景，1954年曾作水墨长卷《无锡南独山写太湖胜概图》，是其建国后具有代表性的重要作品之一，此卷上段所描绘的即是太湖工人疗养院，1957年又作《太湖疗养院》油画。而本幅巨制为夏伊乔取刘海粟《无锡南独山写太湖胜概图》上段之局部再创造所作，深得海翁风范，蔚为大观。参阅：《刘海粟中国画选集》图版14、15、17，上海人民美术出版社，1983年。
