清代帝王多崇信藏傳佛教，為表示對佛菩薩虔誠，除持誦真言，宮中歷代都會製作法器與具有濃厚宗教色彩紋樣的器皿。轉經筒便是其一，每轉動一次代表念誦經文一遍，經筒旋轉，即為轉經。此件轉經筒主體呈圓柱形，下設單層仰覆蓮紋基座，中間設銅軸相貫穿以便轉動。經筒頂部飾一蓮紋圓珠為鈕，以示蓮心，頂部鑲嵌一顆珍珠，清新聖潔；主體分上下兩部分，鑲嵌圓珠寶石間隔，陰刻纏枝蓮紋錦地，如意雲頭紋開光，精作浮雕六字真言紋紋飾，線條細膩流暢，靈動飄逸，精緻華美，顯示出其非同一般的規制，當為藏區大型寺廟和貴族禮佛所用之物。
