From here he became an architect for London County Council and was involved with many London societies, and not least The William Morris Society where he was an office bearer. His large and varied collection, amassed from 1902 to 1972, reflected his wide interest in the arts. His archive is now held by the William Morris Gallery at Walthamstow.
