GILT-LACQUERED WOODEN FIGURE OF A DAOIST IMMORTAL QING DYNASTY, 18TH-19TH CENTURY 清 木漆éŽé‡‘æŒé¡äººç‰©åƒ depicting a male figure standing upright on a plinth slightly tilting to his front left, he holds a box with a mirror to right shoulder, his face lacquered and clothes gilded (24cm high) Qty: (1) Provenance: From the collection of Arthur Halcrow Verstage (1875-1969) Arthur Halcrow Verstage was in 1903 a student and assistant at the Central School of Art in London where William Lethaby was principal and a great influence. From here he became an architect for London County Council and was involved with many London societies, and not least The William Morris Society where he was an office bearer. His large and varied collection, amassed from 1902 to 1972, reflected his wide interest in the arts. His archive is now held by the William Morris Gallery at Walthamstow.
