A very large and rare silver gilt key wound coach pair case clock watch with Alarm and possible Royal connections Date: Circa 1750 Movement: Gilt full plate verge, chain fusee, plain brass 3 arm balance, pierced and engraved balance cock with winged mask and large foot, diamond end stone, two hammers striking bell in case back and horse hammer for alarm, silvered regulator disk, No.2005 Dial: White chapter ring, black Roman numerals, outer minute track with Arabic numerals, inner revolving hour dial with Arabic numerals, blued steel beetle and poker hands Case: Outer pierced and finely engraved with decoration of the crown and flora, inner case with finely engraved and pierced sides of flora and fauna, three winding holes to back Signed: Movement Size: 120mm Accompaniments: Key Footnotes: The current example features a stylised monogram to the case back with Royal Coronet believed to be those for Augusta, Princess of Wales (1719-1772). Born Augusta of Saxe-Gothe-Altenburg, the princess was married to Frederick, Prince of Wales in 1736. Their marriage resulted in 9 children including the future George III. Frederick passed away prematurely in 1751 leading to Augusta being named as prospective regent on the occasion of the current king passing before George III came of age.
