An antique carnelian intaglio ring, possibly carved to depict Pandora with pithos and Greek 'signature', with replacement late Georgian gold band.Ring size F1/2. 7.2gms. Overall condition fair to good. Engraving is of a classically draped woman holding a pithos. Unidentified 'signature' to one side in Greek letters. General surface pitting and fine scratches, nick to the edge of the agate to the front, small chip to the edge of the reverse. Estimated dimensions of ring head 2.3 by 1.7cms. Band shows traces of mourning personal engraving to the inside. 'Edw'd [indistinct last name]...1803 At [indistinct, probably 68] Band has been resized and is later to the mount and appears a rose hue, the mount appearing a yellow gold. Band electronically tests as approximately 9ct gold. Mount electronically tests as approximately 15ct gold. Fellows uses a Thermo Scientific Nitron Handheld XRF Analyser to test metals.
