Translation provided by Youdao
An early 19th century French Napoleonic Prisoner of War Masonic locket pendant, circa 1805.Watercolour and paper on ivory. Length 5.6cms. This pendant is similar in design to many others crafted by French prisoners of war in England during the Napoleonic Wars. Jewels and pendants like this were made using whatever materials were available at the time, such as paper, straw and animal bones and would have been traded as souvenirs to English Masons in return for food, clothes and bedding. Overall condition fair. Some of the applied details have come apart and are loose within the casing. Metal shows significant discolouration. General moderate marks and wear in keeping with age. Estimated dimensions of portrait 4.2 by 3.1cms. Condition reports are offered as a guide only and we highly recommend inspecting any lot to satisfy yourself as to its condition.
