辟邪为中国古代传统神兽形象之一，《天中录》引《瑞应图》曰：“天禄辟邪天防者，纯灵之兽，五色光耀，洞明王者，道偹则至。”《灵帝纪注》亦有云：“邓州南阳县北，有宣资碑，旁有两石兽，镌其膊，一曰天禄，一曰辟邪，据此即天禄辟邪并兽名也。”这件辟邪摆件以白玉雕刻而成，其色洁白，细润温腻若羊脂，是白玉之中难得之珍品。古兽则卧势，贴伏与地，作者以流畅线条刻出古兽后腿，蓄势待发，仿佛下一刻便腾跃而起，四爪俱利，分外威严。作者注重辟邪面部表情的刻画，与身体之简练刀法形成鲜明对比。辟邪方颐阔口，双目圆睁，口中紧紧衔一枝桃枝，分为两桠，相互交叠，两桠上各生一枚蟠桃，枝叶舒展，仿佛微微颤动。整件作品圆雕刀法流畅圆润，足见作者刀法之纯熟。196g
