笔筒截取竹节一段，口沿微撇，器壁厚，通体赭色，竹节恰好在底端，并雕三矮足，造型稳重又不失灵巧。采用高浮雕技法，于筒壁刻出蕉叶赏石，枝梗疏密有致，起伏得当。笔筒刀法老练明快，刻工粗豪与细致兼备，层次清晰，布局合理，富有立体感。取三友题材，寓意清雅高洁，为文房佳器。
