An early 19th century Japanese netsuke from Edo period. Signed Tomochika on the base. In carved elephant ivory portraying two female Shishis, fighting themselves. The one on top is bitting the paw of the one which is lying on the floor, 32,3x39,4x23,6 mm. 24,14 gr. Elephant ivory specimen previous to 7/1/1947, as stated by the regulations CE 338/97 of 12/9/1996, article 2w.
