A George IV mahogany red leather patent reclining library armchair by Robert Daws Close-nailed and buttoned, the rectangular reclining padded back, padded arms and seat above a sliding ratcheted foot stool, on stiff leaf carved turned tapering legs and castors, stamped to sides of both rear legs R DAWS with Royal Warrant, 55cm wide, 69cm deep, 100cm high, seat height 38cm. Robert Daws is recorded as being active between 1820-39 at 17 Margaret Street, Cavendish Square, London, and patented his improved recumbent chair in 1827, see C. Gilbert and G.
