此件牙板以名贵黄花梨整雕而成，作如意云式，形制颀长，古雅大方，持之则沉坠压手，密度上佳。通体包浆沉厚，色如蒸栗，虽经历数百年，摩挲中仍见脂凝厚重，呈典型的“油梨”特性，为研究明末清初黄花梨家具的标准构件。 黄花梨成才缓慢，质精而纹美，适于雕刻、制作各种家具之用，与紫檀木、鸡翅木、铁力木并称中国古代四大名木。 我国自唐代就已用花梨木制作器物，唐·陈藏器《本草拾遗》载“榈木（黄花梨）出安南及南海，用作床几，似紫檀而色赤，性坚好”。 明代《格古要论》提到：“（黄）花梨木出男番、广东，紫红色，与降真香相似，亦有香。其花有鬼面者可爱，花粗而色淡者低，广人多以作茶酒盏。”
