A Northern European green-lacquered and japanned cabinet on stand, probably 19th century, with three tiers, in two parts, the top fitted with eight drawers flanking a cupboard, the interior painted red, the second tier with a cupboard opening to reveal an orange painted interior with découpage figures, animals and landscapes, the interior also painted red, the lower drawer with a division, the third tier with a top-hung cupboard, the interior in red with a shelf, with iron supports, on scrolled feet, 90cm wide 51cm deep 168cm high Provenance: From the collection of Min Hogg (1938-2019), founding editor of 'The World of Interiors'. Condition report: Top cornice has a chunk to the edge, further down paint flaking and losses. The pine carcass has splits to the bak and the drawers throughout. Knocks and wear across the edges. Some evidence of overpainting and filled areas to the japanned panels. Evidence of alteration and repair. Old breaks and repairs to feet.
