Circle of William Bromley (1769-1842) Study of two boys reading a book oil on canvas 25 x 31cm Provenance: Farm House, Farm Street, Mayfair, London. Condition report: Oil on canvas which is unlined with an artists’ supplier stamp on the reverse for Alfred Hill of Bristol. The canvas tension is adequate. There are general undulations across the surface caused by the thick paint layers pulling the canvas forward. There are also stretcher bar marks present in the paint layer where it has cracked following the lines of the wooden stretcher behind. The canvas appears to have been reused. The edges which are folded over the stretcher at the reverse are painted to the very edges with what appears to be a landscape scene. The paint layers are in a good stable condition overall although they have developed a prominent network of age cracks. The varnish is slight yellowed and uneven but acceptable overall.
