Italian School, late 18th century Portrait of a sculptress, bust length, working on a classical bust oil on canvas 55 x 46cm Provenance: Farm House, Farm Street, Mayfair, London. Condition report: The canvas has been relined. There is craquelure in parts. There is a scratch running diagonally from the upper right edge towards the head. There are other smaller losses elsewhere, mainly to the lower sixth of the canvas, where there is also some lifting. There are several spots of retouching apparent to the eye, probably due to flaking prior to the painting being relined. The paint on the face has become a little thin and there is some detail loss. Seen under UV: the retouching does not show up under UV, possibly due to the varnish. However it is apparent that there must be more retouching, especially close to the lower edge where it is clear that the paint has become unstable.
