和田黄玉质，色黄均一，局部留皮，通体润泽，包浆古雅。匠师以刀为笔，于躯干部位加以细致刻画仿古饕餮纹饰，线条流畅，古拙工整之中略带灵动，尽显仿古之器的大气稳重之感。
高濂在《遵生八笺》中这样论述黄玉：“玉以甘黄为上，羊脂次之；黄为中色，且不易得，以自为偏色，时亦有之，故而令人贱黄而贵白，以见少也”黄玉作为新疆和田玉的四大主色玉之一，柔和如脂，质地滋润，以色黄正而骄，润如脂者使其身价不菲，它稀有罕见，是玉中的珍品。其中色如新剥熟栗色者为贵，甘黄玉、焦黄者次之。黄玉因其原料稀少，其地位可以和和田羊脂白玉并举，颜色纯正的黄玉甚至高于羊脂白玉。
