玉马白玉种圆雕，玉质细腻，表面局部微微带有香黄色沁。整体作一回首滚马，马首刻画传神写实，身姿健硕，前足回弯，后腿抬起，呈翻滚嬉戏状，颇为灵动鲜活。整体造型古朴大气，带有马上翻身、马到成功之寓意。此马鬃毛及尾毛以细密的阴刻线刻画，自然洒脱，马尾回转夹于后蹄之间，这种处理方法在“滚马”玉雕中也是较少见的。刻工技法精湛，刀法工整流利，特别是马脊背的刻画，线条硬朗分明，成功表现出骏马健硕的肌肉及骨骼感。“舆马放休，天下安宁”乃为太平盛世之象。滚马嬉戏的惬意形态，也蕴含着了“刀枪入库，马放南山”的图景，表达了休息干戈，和平生活的社会心理。关于滚马题材，故宫收藏的诸多文房竹雕、御题书画、甚至织绣上都有表现，例如台北故宫收藏有吴之璠滚马图竹笔筒。
