Italian school of the late seventeenth century."Madonna".Old attribution to Carlo Dolci (Florence, 1616-1686).Oil on canvas. Relined.19th century frame.Measurements: 47 x 35 cm; 75.5 x 62.5 cm (frame). The present canvas, previously attributed to Carlo Dolci, a Florentine painter whose style was characterized by being highly refined, defying to a great extent that of other Italian painters of his contemporaries, shows the representation of the Virgin. In it Mary appears dressed in a red tunic and blue mantle, both chosen by the painter with a symbolic intention, since the red color alludes to the passion of Christ, and the blue symbolizes the concepts of truth and eternity. This iconography is a very frequent theme in painting intended for private devotion, as can be seen in this example, clearly devotional not only because of its theme but also because of its small format. In this type of work, the composition we see here will be frequent, clear, balanced and simple, which prevents the viewer's gaze from straying from the face that is the protagonist of the work.
