FLEUR-DE-LYS PLAQUES, c.1900-1930, French, a pair of wooden wall panels, bearing decoration of the French lilies, with wire holders for drinking glasses, likely from a drinking club or carnival, 59 x 49cm (2) The Lillies, or 'Fleur-de-Lys', were an important symbol in the heraldry of monarchial France, where they came to embody the French nation itself and its national values. However, they also appeared on several other important monarchial and ducal crests across Medieval, and Renaissance Europe, and continue to do so to this day. These include, but are not limited to, the state crest of Florence, the Medici family crest, and the crest Spanish Empire, where it was introduced by the Bourbon dynasty.
