WAYANG KULIT, late 19th/early 20th century, Indonesia, three shadow puppets, the flat figures carved in relief and painted in colours 62cm high (largest) (3) UNESCO designated wayang kulit, a shadow puppet theatre as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity on 7 November 2003. In return for the acknowledgement, UNESCO required Indonesians to preserve the tradition. Wayang has also been a significant historical art form in Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia and Laos. Condition report: Puppets have some repairs and the paper arms are delicate, one has arms detached, other are weak and need strengthening
