LOVER'S EYE RING, a lover's eye ring, with a painted lover’s eye miniature under a convex glazed panel, later set to a Victorian mount with tapered hand engraved shoulders and hand-engraved shank, UK size L½, American size 6.25 Lover's eye miniatures were first produced around 1780, and the trend is often attributed to a miniature that George IV commissioned of his own eye, for his mistress Mrs Maria Fitzherbert. Lover's eye miniatures were given as intimate gifts of devotion between loved ones. Condition report: The ring is unmarked, no stamps or marks visible (gold content not tested). The miniature is later set to the Victorian ring mount. There is a slight gap between the glazed miniature and the edge of the collet, and some adhesive is visible around the edges. The miniature possibly came from an earlier piece of jewellery, or is a later miniature.
