Bronze gilt with silver inlaysTibet, 18th centuryDimensions: Height 18 cmWeight: 241 gramsUnusual shrine of a Bodhisattva on a rectangular plinth with decorative bands, open-work support with stone inlay at the center and a round reverse lotus base with beaded rim. The Bodhisattva is seated cross-legged with soles of feet showing, wearing flowy garments covering the legs. The shoulders are also dressed with decorative robes, the upper body seems to be dressed in aristocratic clothes with a chest-armour and puffy sleeves. The hands are raised in front of the chest, showing the dharmachakra mudra. The face looks juvenile with a light smile and downcast eyes, earlobes elongated. The Bodhisattva is wearing a pompous crown of stone inlay. He is surrounded by a big flaming aureole with additional stone inlay, his head also bears a halo in the same fashion with a lotus flower at the top center. The back of this outstanding bronze is relatively plain.
