Bronze paintedTibet, 18th centuryDimensions: Height 22 cm by 24 cmWeight: 309 gramsElaborate mask in good condition of a Citipati mask mounted on a stand. Usually the Citipati is a pair of a female and male skeleton intertwined in a dance. He is also known as the Master of the Cemetary and one of the 75 forms of the Mahakala. The skull is grinning widely, the eyes are large and round. Wavy cracks cover the skull. Fiery ornamental waves are extending from between the teeth and meet on top of the skull. These masks were also used as protection at entrances. They are also a reminder of impermanence and constant change.
