Catalogue Note Robert James was working in Bristol between 1784 and 1831. He was recorded as trading as a cabinet maker in Terill Street during the 1790s. In 1818 he was declared bankrupt but by 1821 he was advertising himself as a 'Manufacturer of the Beautiful Polyanthus Wood' and in 1822 he received a Royal patent and subsequently described himself as 'Manufacturer in British Woods to his Majesty'.
