Large Pair Detailed and Signed Gilt Bronze Censers, 19th Century.
Fantastic rockery with sprouting grasses form the base for the 3 part censers. The base border has gilt phoenix surrounded by clouds. The fabulous center sections variously depict running auspicious Kirin (Kylin), the God of Thunder and Lightening and a Goddess in elaborate robes. All are surrounded by pine and plum trees and clouds, most of which are gilt highlighted. The handles on either side of the center are finely cast rockery with leaves and floral work. The lids have fantastic rockery surrounded by lively three-dimensional waves. The signature panel is located in a small rectangular cartouche under a Kylin. Japanese
