|说明：笔筒直筒式，底有三矮足，隐约可见。凹雕白菜一棵，菜心处透雕叶茎。一只螳螂趴伏菜叶间，隐露半身，生动异常。装饰以剔地深刻法，于阴刻之中又采用高浮雕和镂雕手法，收到了似阳实阴，阴中有阳的特殊装饰效果，凹凸变化精微，玲珑剔透，意趣横生，刀法精绝，颇见功力，与深红的表色相得益彰，显示出高超的技巧和雅致的格调。落款为徐素白应为后人仰慕其名声而后刻款。秋虫白菜图为明清以来嘉定派竹人常用之题材，北京故宫博物院收藏有此题材风格的笔筒。
