弥勒是印度梵语音译，意译“慈氏”，因其过去世曾得到佛的开示，发心修道成“慈心三昧”而得名；又有说弥勒是菩萨名，本姓“阿逸多”，意为无能胜，所以又称阿逸多菩萨。此像为弥勒菩萨众多艺术形象中的一种，耳下垂圆环。脸颊丰圆，眉眼上挑，眉间饰白毫，面容秀美，神态安详。肩部宽阔，腰部收束，躯体浑圆，四肢粗壮有力，细部刻画精细入微，生动传神。
