青花胎质细密坚致，釉面光洁，青花颜色青翠明朗。山水间绘有左右回绕盘旋的云纹，极富时代特征，这种括号状云一直延续至顺治。近口沿和近足际一周装饰釉下暗刻花纹，系崇祯青花瓷器最显著的特点之一。受晚明高度发达的版画业的影响，瓷器上出现大量取材于版画和小说插图的有关历史、戏剧故事的题材，如本件拍品“丙吉问牛”图。“丙吉问牛”典故：丙吉为相，出郊，遇途人有殴死者，不问。遇有逐牛而喘者，问曰：牛行几里矣。或曰前后失问。吉曰：方今少阳用事，犹未太热，牛喘出舌，恐阴阳失序。三公调理阴阳，职当忧，故问之。殴死人者，自有京兆官。
