A pair of Louis XVI-style gilded and grey painted wood armchairs, c.1900, with leaf and ribbon carved decoration, on fluted column legs, stamped 'Queen Alexandra' and a crown, 60cm wide 58cm deep 99cm high Provenance: Bruun-Rasmussen, Denmark, 7 September 2009, lot 937. These chairs are thought to have been made for Villa Hvidøre, north of Copenhagen, where the two sisters - the English Queen Alexandra and the Russian Empress Dagmar Maria Feodorovna - lived together during the last years of their lives. Condition report: Recently reupholstered in a grey linen fabric, some expected wear to the arm terminals, and some gilt flaking to the leg capitals. No evidence of old damages or repairs.
