English Provincial School (early 19th century) Portrait of Edmund Burton (1760-1820), half-length, in profile, in a blue coat, holding a scroll inscribed 'Edmund Burton Esq / Wolfhamcote / Northants'; and Portrait of Clerke Burton, half-length, in profile, in a brown coat A pair, oil on canvas each 76 x 63cm, unframed (2) Provenance: By descent within the family of the sitters, Wolfhamcote, Northamptonshire. Edmund Burton owned the manor of Wolfhamcote, Northamptonshire; it is now an abandoned village. There is a memorial to members of the Burton family in the market square in Daventry, Northamptonshire. Condition report: Both unframed, unlined and with scattered paint lossses and scratches. Both portraits inscribed on the stretcher "Dining Room".
